Discovers 3800-Year-Old Amulet on Family Walk!

A 3-year-old girl made a remarkable discovery during a family stroll when she picked up what appeared to be an ordinary rock, only to reveal it was a 3,800-year-old Canaanite scarab amulet from the Middle Bronze Age. The find occurred near an archaeological site in Israel, where the young girl, named Ziv Nitzan, found the ancient artifact camouflaged among the gravel on a path. Following the discovery, the amulet was reported and is now set to be displayed in a special exhibition.

Ziv’s sister, Omer Nitzan, recalled the moment when Ziv picked up the stone, and upon closer inspection, they realized it was something special. The family promptly contacted the Israel Antiquities Authority, which confirmed the amulet’s age and significance. Expert Daphna Ben-Tor explained that scarabs like this were used as seals and amulets during that period, often carrying symbols and messages reflecting religious beliefs or social status.
The scarab, commonly associated with ancient Egypt, was found at the foot of Tel Azeka, an archaeological site near Beit Shemesh known for its rich history and cultural influences. The discovery adds to the site’s already extensive collection of Egyptian and Canaanite artifacts, underscoring the close ties between the two regions during that era.
Ziv’s find has garnered praise from officials, including Israeli Minister of Heritage Amichai Eliyahu, who emphasized the importance of connecting with ancient civilizations through such discoveries. The 3,800-year-old amulet will soon be showcased alongside other artifacts from the period for the public to appreciate and enjoy.

Join us at the upcoming Israel Archaeology Exhibition celebrating Passover. A variety of artifacts will be on display, such as pharaoh seals, Egyptian statues, ritual vessels, and a newly found scarab amulet uncovered by an excited 3-year-old.
