25 Million at Risk of Wildfires Under Red Flag Warnings!

More than 25 million Americans are still under red flag warnings on Saturday due to warm, dry, and windy conditions that are increasing the risk of wildfires. The fire threat is widespread across the Central U.S., with elevated risks also present in parts of the Southeast, including North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia.

In southeast Miami-Dade, Florida, a wildfire is currently 50% contained as of Saturday morning, according to local officials who are working tirelessly to control the blaze. While there are currently no road closures to and from the Florida Keys, residents and commuters are advised to stay informed and alert in case conditions change.

Although many areas are facing an elevated fire threat today, parts of New Mexico and West Texas are experiencing a critical threat due to sustained winds, warm temperatures, and low humidity. Conditions are expected to improve slightly by Sunday, but the fire risk remains elevated for parts of the Southern Plains.

Heavy snow and wintry weather are forecasted for parts of the Upper Midwest and northern Great Lakes, with winter weather alerts in effect for northeastern Minnesota and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. While snowfall totals could range from 3 to 7 inches, areas farther north may see heavier snowfall accumulation.

Further south, heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected in the Mid-Mississippi River Valley, with a chance of severe storms. Missouri, eastern Kansas, northeastern Oklahoma, and northwestern Arkansas are under a marginal risk for severe storms, with damaging winds, large hail, and a possibility of tornadoes.

As the storm system moves eastward on Sunday, the threat for severe weather will increase in the Lower Mississippi River Valley and Deep South, potentially leading to flash flooding in some areas. Over 4 million people are under a slight risk for severe storms from Texas to Tennessee, with damaging winds, hail, and tornadoes all possible.
