Two additional suspects have been apprehended in the case of Caleb Wilson’s death related to an alleged off-campus fraternity hazing incident. Kyle Thurman and Isaiah Smith were taken into custody for their roles in Wilson’s passing in February, as per a statement from the Baton Rouge Police Department. The third suspect, Caleb McCray, surrendered himself on March 7. Thurman, aged 25, was arrested in Port Allen, La., on March 10 and transferred to the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on a charge of criminal hazing. Isaiah Smith voluntarily turned himself in to authorities on March 11 and faces the same charges. Wilson, 20, was brought to Baton Rouge Medical Center in the early hours of February 26 by friends who claimed he collapsed after being hit in the chest while playing basketball, according to the police report. Further investigation revealed that Wilson succumbed to injuries sustained during a hazing ritual involving repeated chest punches by fraternity members Thurman, Smith, and McCray. McCray delivered the fatal blows that led to Wilson’s collapse and subsequent seizure. He was later detained and charged with criminal hazing and manslaughter after presenting himself with legal representation. McCray’s lawyer emphasized that accusations do not equate to guilt and maintained his client’s innocence, urging the public to refrain from premature judgments. Law enforcement officials interviewed numerous individuals and executed multiple search warrants during the course of the investigation. Baton Rouge Mayor-President Sid Edwards extended his sympathies to Wilson’s family, while Omega Psi Phi International President Ricky L. Lewis expressed condolences and acknowledged the ongoing inquiry.
