2 mummies of children, 1 of them a girl, were found during the Kayseri-Ankara highway works in 1927 in Boğazköprü locality of Kocasinan district. The mummies were brought to Kayseri High School after the necessary examinations were made.

The mummies, which were kept in the laboratory of the high school for many years, were sent to the old museum building in 1982. In May this year, the mummies were brought to the Kayseri Archeology Museum, which was completed in 2021 and houses approximately 1940 artifacts, and started to be exhibited here.

FOUND AT A CROSSROADS

According to the news of Demirören News Agency, Museum Director Gökhan Yıldız, who gave information about the mummies, said: “Our 2 child mummies, which we are exhibiting in the Eastern Roman Hall, according to our archival records, there are records that they were found in 1927 in an area known as Boğazköprü locality, at the junction of the highways in the west of our city.

We know that after these 2 mummies were found, they were kept in Kayseri High School until 1982. Afterwards, with the transfer to our museum, our mummies were exhibited in our old museum buildings. With the completion of our new service building, we have put these two artifacts back into the use of our visitors in the Eastern Roman Hall as of May 2024.”
