As Brazil struggles with floods caused by heavy rains, the loss of life in the disaster is increasing. The number of people who lost their lives in the floods in the state of Rio Grande do Sul increased to 56.
Authorities say the number of people reported missing has risen to 70, so the death toll could rise.
In the state where 23 thousand people were evacuated from their homes due to flooding, streets were flooded, roads were damaged and bridges collapsed.
BRAZILIAN PRESIDENT LULA MADE INSPECTIONS
Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva inspected the flood-affected areas from the air in a state declared in a "state of disaster". "I told the governor and my ministers that the federal government will make every effort. We will overcome this with great care," Lula said.
