University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust confirmed that it investigated an incident in September 2023 in which "a baby was given to the wrong mother".

After the mother, Maisie Beth, gave birth to Isabelle, it became clear that the baby needed phototherapy.

The baby was placed in a room monitored every two hours.

Beth was called to the office by a midwife to collect her child.

She took the baby back to her room and started to change his diaper when she realized that someone else was holding her son.

According to the report in the case file, the midwife admitted that Beth, 22, looked like the boy's mother and that's why she confused them.

University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust said in a statement on its website: "We are investigating an incident in September 2023 when a baby was given to the wrong mother in our maternity unit. We deeply regret any distress caused and are committed to providing full support to the families affected."
